Well done, Dan
Dan Whitcombe, a third year blacksmith at Hereford College, is currently exhibiting a light fitting in Cardiff. The turquoise glass was painstakingly fitted into gentle curves to match the lines of the lamp sculpture here in the Exemplar Glass studio. Good luck, Dan, we hope it will bring you many commissions.

Wye Valley Life Feature
Once again Jane has been featured in Wye Valley Life magazine pages 78/79 of the January 2010 issue, together with sandcasting artist Amanda Brisbane and stained glass artist Rowan McOnegal. Any positive publicity is always welcome.

Excellent job, Simon!
Simon Bushell, studying blacksmithing at Hereford College, came to the studio a couple of months ago to cut the mirrored section of "Gloria", his first year work. Since then the piece has been exhibited around the three counties and has recently taken a train journey to the south coast. On her travels "Gloria" picked up three prizes and I am sure she isn't finished yet.
Keep an eye on Simon, I am sure he has a great future ahead of him.

WELL DONE HAYLEY!

October 2008. Former Exemplar student, Hayley Morgan, achieved a very prestigious commission - a 60th birthday presentation for HRH, The Prince of Wales. Prince Charles is shown admiring Hayley's work. More of Hayley's glass pieces can be seen on her website: Baskervilld

Julie Coakley, shown above with Becky Wills, and below in the news archive, was very ill with meningitis in January 2008 and is now totally blind and profoundly deaf. Whilst recovering in hospital she devised a system adapting Emma Varga's techniques that would allow her to carry on working as a glass artist. The photographs show the end results which are three panels each 2 metres high by 48 cm wide. They contain approx 20000 pieces of glass !

The work "Blind Trilogy" tells the story of initial feelings of when Julie went blind Red and black are Blind Fear, Blue Blind courage and Yellow Blind Love.
They are 7 layers deep bullseye glass.

The photographs were taken at the New Designers exhibition.
