Dichroic Glass
Many of our jewellery items are made from dichroic glass. To produce the wonderful effects, the base is coated with thin layers of metallic oxides which are deposited in a high temperature vacuum furnace.
Dichroic glass reflects certain wavelengths of light and allows the remaining wavelengths to transmit through. This is the same way nature creates the colours seen in bird feathers, fish scales, opals and even the colour seen in oil on water.
Using dichroic glass on a clear base, the colours seen differ when worn against dark and light clothing.
